The Old West

Here is a set of charcoals that I drew back in 1983  This was my first real attempt at charcoal drawings. They had been framed and I just recently took them out to get prints made. The lady on the left lived to be 102 and lived just 100 miles down the road from me in Chehalis. The second from the left is Quanah Parker of the Comanche tribe. Than there is Chief Joseph and Wild Bill Cody. Quanah Parker was the last one I did in the set and I attempted to increase the contrast. They each took about three days to do as I remember. Over the last 30 years they have begun to fade and yellow. Personnally, I feel that fading is in keeping with the subject matter.

Sort of an unhappy bunch of characters.

Three New drawings

I am still struggling with how to mix two different art mediums. It is a bit tricky. If you want to do a drawing in charcoal and pastels - Do as much of the charcoal first then use your pastels. It is next to impossible to make pastel corrections or enhancements by going over it with charcoal.

A couple new drawings:

Title:  Wallstreet

This picture is a rather stylized version of a barn owl or a burrow owl.

Title
Some Days are more Overwhelming than others

Title: Tank

I always do as much as I can with the drawing and then put it down for a couple days and come back to it. With the idea of correcting anything that looks obviously flawed.
